Process Principle
Teflon coating uses polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) as the key component. It is applied by spraying, dipping, or composite plating to form a functional organic layer on the fastener surface.
Key Characteristics
Very low friction coefficient – as low as 0.07–0.1; provides self-lubrication, reducing installation torque and preventing seizure.
Excellent corrosion resistance – resists strong acids, alkalis, and salt spray; NSS can exceed 1000 hours.
Non-stick and wide temperature range – low surface energy prevents adhesion; stable from -200 °C to 260 °C.
Composite functionality – can be combined with electroless nickel (Ni-PTFE) for improved hardness and adhesion.
Applications
Used where special functional requirements exist: chemical plant flange bolts requiring frequent disassembly (anti-seize, anti-galling), automotive chassis suspension bolts (self-lubrication, noise reduction), food/pharmaceutical equipment fasteners (non-stick, FDA-compliant), and aerospace applications.
